So many things happening to me in my life right now! I'm stressing out about a purchase that we're working on at Northbay Home Loans. This is the not-at-all-fun part of the mortgage business. Waiting for everyone else to deliver their parts of the deal and worrying about the timing of it all.
At the same time I've been working and working to get in the door at Redwood Credit Union and I've finally broken down their resistance. I'll be starting there on Monday May 3rd. I don't want to say it's entry level, because the hiring managers told me it's really quite a good place to start over there. But it feels like "starting over" for me, something I've done way too many times in my career. I'm almost 40! How can I be doing this again? But it must be done. I have been convinced for a long time that RCU would be a great target for me and the way I operate in a corporate setting. Now I get to find out.
I'm also finding that I'm quite good at selling used books through Amazon.com. This is a small side project that I don't expect will ever make me very much money, but it's been fun to play the pricing game there. It's a lot like "The Price is Right" where you try to set your price just a hair lower than everyone else's to make sure you're in position to make the sale. At the same time, you want to actually make money, so you can't set it too low. The funny thing is, I'm running out of books (that will sell).
At the same time, I noticed that I'd been found ("searched" is probably more accurate) on Twitter by Tara Firma Farms and I actually went to the farm and may patronize the place. Then it occurred to me that I could use this same strategy to try to help people find me and especially my book, Fortress Beverly Hills. So I've been using the strategy of following people on Twitter who are in the writing world and particularly those who administer lists of writers, authors and other writing resources. So far, this strategy is working pretty well. Several of these lists are now following me and I'm being found by other groups and lists that I hadn't targeted myself. I figure if I sell even one book, this effort is worth it, but if it develops into a true following... Well who knows, maybe my long term goal of seeing Fortress on the big screen will be realized!
And I haven't even mentioned my worm composting, the vegetable frames we got this weekend and filled with dirt, my various genealogy projects or my two little girls who are growing and changing and making sure I stay grounded on what's truly important.
Whew!
