Blasts from the Past 2: LA Galaxy starting lineup photo 1996 #lagalaxy #galaxy

I found this photo in a box I had kept from 1996. I believe it is from opening day, 1996 when the Los Angeles Galaxy played the New York/New Jersey MetroStars (yes, that was the official name of the team back then) in front of 70,000 or so in the Rose Bowl. I didn't take this picture. I don't know who did or how I came to have it, but I thought I'd share it for fun:

The team is: top row left to right: Dan Calichman, Robin Fraser, Manny Motajo, Jorge Campos, Harut Karapetyan, Eduardo Hurtado.
Bottom row: Mauricio Cienfuegos, Cobi Jones, Chris Armas, Arash Noamouz, Mark Semioli

Blast from the Past #LAGalaxy

I was cleaning my closet and I found this thing, a handkerchief maybe? In any case, it looks like this:

The funniest thing about this, though, is that on this Los Angeles Galaxy hanky thing is a picture of the dearly departed, but hopefully not forgotten Twizzle! Twizzle was a logo idea that the marketing geniuses within the Galaxy organization thought up back in 1996. Twizzle seemed like a great idea at the time until the fans of the team, who had a surprisingly biting sense of humor, started referring to him as a giant spinning carrot (or yam, depending on which fan you were listening to).

Here's Twizzle:

Fans of the team who go back that far should appreciate this little blast from the past. Hehehehe. Reminds me of my old moniker on the Galaxy discussion lists, "El Tanque". Those were the days.
